We use authoritative data from Australian, New Zealand and American sources that reflect the global reality of work today
When students are exploring the world of work, they are likely to come across jobs from Australia, New Zealand, America and elsewhere.
There are two reasons for this.
- We use authoritative data sources to create, update and maintain the over 52,000 jobs listed in BECOME.ME. The app melds the occupational definitions of the Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations (ANZSCO) with the US Occupational Information Network O*Net database. Jobs are presented under simplified occupation cluster-based taxonomy. We can extend BECOME to cover emerging, topical and kid-popular occupations.
- The world of work is increasingly global, and our students will live and work in many places. Encourage them to notice terminology that seems unfamiliar to them, and to research what (and why) local variants of these jobs exist. Students may see that aspects of some jobs are cultural and change from place to place – this is valuable learning.
