BECOME can be integrated into several learning areas across school year levels
The BECOME program is made up of BECOME lessons and the BECOME.me app. Many schools use the program to form the base of a whole-school or multi-year careers education program that focuses on curiosity driven exploration of a wide range of careers. (BECOME can be implemented at selected year levels in years 5-10, or across the whole school.)
BECOME is designed to encourage each individual to research, question and try out lots of ideas about their future aspirations (rather than pushing students to make a fixed single-career decision). As a result, it has several natural 'homes' in the timetable and curriculum.
In many schools the BECOME program forms part of a student wellbeing, life design or student futures program.
Because students develop critical thinking skills, personal and social capability, and skills for research and questioning -- in many schools it is integrated into subject areas such as English or Health and Physical Education, especially in the upper primary and lower secondary years.
It also relates to Humanities - Economics and Business. After all, BECOME is all about learning to look, think, ask questions and challenge assumptions about life, work, commerce and community effort.
When BECOME is implemented at the higher year levels such as years 9 and 10, many of the lessons lock into outcomes on the Work Studies curriculum.
Skills Maps for educators
Every lesson contains a Skills Map (see an example below) outlining the Australian Curriculum learning areas and outcomes relevant to that lesson, the Australian Blueprint for Career Development (ABCD) framework, Transferable future skills, and General Capabilities (such as Critical and Creative Thinking). This enables educators to document soft skills, such as communication skills including speaking and listening skills, enterprise skills, and teamwork.
Scope and Sequence documentation
For each year or grade, Scope and Sequence documents provide suggested sequence of teacher-led lessons and activities in the BECOME.ME app. The BECOME team provides training and planning assistance.
